Under the COBRA act, a qualified beneficiary is defined as any employee, or dependent child or the spouse of the employee, who on the day before a qualifying even was covered under the employee's group health insurance. Further more, the definition also includes any child who is born or placed for adoption with the employee during the period pf COBRA coverage. This actually gives an automatic coverage eligibility for COBRA to the child as well as the right to have his own election rights if a second qualifying event occurs.
