Part A is available to any person at no cost for as long as the person is entitled to monthly retirement benefits under social security or the railroad retirement plan.
Following people are also eligible for Part A of Medicare:
- People aged 65 or older who are dependents of fully insured workers aged 62 or older
- Survivors aged 65 or older who are eligible for social security survivors benefits
- Employed people who are either fully or currently insured and their spouses and dependent children with end-stage renal disease who require renal dialysis or kidney transplants
- Disabled people at any age who have been eligible to receive social security benefits for two years due to their disability (includes workers under 65, disabled widows and widows 50 or over, and children 18 or older who were disabled prior to age 22.)
People can still enroll in Medicare if they don't meet above requirements yet must pay a monthly fee, and also have to enroll in Medicare Part B.
